Well, I believe I've taken care of all the odds and ends at this point. I saw the Watchmen movie the other day. Whether I liked it or not, is not really important, but what I did think was very interesting was the audience reaction to the nudity and sex scenes.

Firstly, the movie is an adaptation of a very dark adult-themed comic book, and therefore R-rated, and YET (!!!) there were kids in the theater! Three of which elbowed Michael in the back of the head while trying to walk down the aisle to go to the restrooms. Ugh. I'm no prude, but really, this isn't exactly a "fun-for-all family movie." Yes, yes, there's graphic sex and violence, but also, what is the point of taking kids to see a movie they most likely will not understand? I remember my parents taking me to see The War of the Roses when I was 7, and all I remember thinking at the time was that it was really boring, weird, and that there was a crazy lady that kills a rabbit.

I'd rather be watching cartoons!

So in the movie there's a sex scene between Silk Specter II and Night Owl II, which is very dumb and uncomfortable, mostly because that damn Leonard Cohen song Hallelujah. Why THAT version of THAT song?!

After the movie Michael told me that there were people down in the front of the theater taking cell phone captures of this scene. Why? A search later in the evening revealed a website where you can search for Hollywood actresses and scenes where they show their boobies. OF COURSE!

Which brings me to another question- why do people think boobs are so awesome, and penises are so gross?

YESSS! SO AWESOME!!!! Loruhglalhrlhlglshkadklhflkashdfh!

GASP!!!!...AVERT YOUR EYES!...GROSSSSsssss.

This is the second movie I've been to lately where the audience freaks out at peen on the screen. The first was Forgetting Sarah Marshall, during the first scene the audience gasped at the sight of Jason Segel's penis. GASPED! What I love about Dr. Manhattan is that his god-like powers has made him feel detached from everyone, and so he sees no point in wearing pants. No pants = not a big deal. It becomes normal for him.

What I like about this is the idea of the naked body being normal, and the comfort in that knowledge. We're all just a bunch of blood, bones, and guts sealed together in a bag of skin, we all pee and poo, so what's the big hubbub, bub? My guess is that most people are just not open enough or educated enough or just can't deal with sex and sexuality, and sex is ALWAYS attached to the idea of weiners and boobs, even though the majority of the time weiners and boobs are not actually actively involved in sexual activity. No, on a day to day basis, they are very unglamorously tucked away in bras and underwear, sweating, itching, and causing discomfort if smooshed the wrong way. THAT is normal.

This was a fun little ipod doodle I made a couple months ago of Michael Bulldog playing the guitar. At one time this would have been considered impossible, but I have seen him fiddle around with Miguelito, the ukulele, so only time will tell what will become of this. If "fiddling around" is to the fiddle, could one derive the word "uke-ing" from the ukulele? No, cuz that's dumb.

We bought a new sofabedfutonsleepercouch thing. The display model was a pimpin' wine color, but we got ours in gray which should go nicely with the shelves.

My latest challenge- re-organize my "home-office"/studio space. I've been browsing the Ikea catalog and learning to use Google SketchUp, which I must say, is terribly boring and terribly fun at the same time.

I'd much rather be doing this in Animal Crossing where there is a cute dog that sings to you on Saturday nights.

Wah, it's back home and back to work for me. I want more vacation. Michael and I bought a ukulele over the holiday, and I need some time to practice playing it! We have named it "Miguelito" because it's spanish, it reminds me of Michael, it's tiny, and Miguel is the name of the very nice dude that sold it to us. He is a Guitar Center "Guitar Expert" in McAllen, TX, and he was so awesome, he restrung Michael's little brother's guitar, AND replaced the peg, even though he didn't have to (they don't usually string your guitars for you since they work on commission and it's time spent away from making sales). He also oiled the neck, tuned it, and gave tips on maintaing it. It's nice that there are people like "Mike" who go above and beyond for their customers. Give that man a raise, I say!

No artwork to show yet, I have too much cleaning and unpacking to do first. In the meantime, a funny picture Michael sent me, and a video he passed on my way, as well.

Guest curators Chelsea Heikes and Mary Anne Kluth selected work from among the most accomplished artists in their peer group for this survey of new regional talent. Many of the participants in The Big Three are recent graduates from Bay Area schools whose work is redefining the boundaries of the local art scene. Among their achievements, artists included in The Big Three have attended the prestigious Bemis Residency in Omaha, Nebraska, exhibited their work in Bay Area Now at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, at the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art, and in international museums and galleries. Working with a diverse range of traditional and new media that includes paint, collage, photography, installation, video, sculpture, and social practice, these talented young Bay Area artists have defined a new vision, characterized by a sense of conceptual play and invention, that revitalizes the classic genres of portraiture, landscape, and still life.
Through their varied approaches, these innovative artists inspire new appreciation for craftsmanship, content and process.

The participating artists are: Scott Barry, Sara Blaylock, Nicholas Bohac, Amy Casey, Nathan Ross Davis, Robyn Engel, Renee Gertler, David Gurman, Katty Hoover, Sangyon Joo, Lauren Lavitt, Christine Monahan, Suzy Poling, Anthony Record, Brion Nuda Rosch, Erik Scollon, Michael Swaine, and Annie Wong.

I also happen to be working on a Mistress Mary at work...I hope to finish her before leaving on vacation next Saturday. EEK! The days are going by too quickly. I have gingerbread people to decorate, presents to make, shopping to finish, knitting to be knit, sketches and doodles and things and this and that. AHH!

Here's a quick sketch for this week's Illustration Friday theme, "balloon." Every Christmas I fly home to Texas to visit family, but I've grown very tired of the get on a plane, get on a greyhound, get on a plane again routine. This way seems more simple and fun.
